I was commissioned to create the event artwork and logo for the Bells Beach Longboard Tour 2025, an annual event held at Bells Beach on Victoria’s Surf Coast. My design approach drew from both surfing culture and the unique environmental character of the reserve.
As a surfing community, we take pride in that the entire reserve is protected in its natural state. There's no infrastructure leading up to Bells and because of this, the hills surrounding the reserve are filled with kangaroos. Its not uncommon to spot an echidna wandering around the car park. I wanted to honour this aspect by incorporating native wildlife into the illustration.
The waves were illustrated to reflect the famous right-hand break in a surf-inspired styled, while allowing some artistic freedom in scale to enhance the poster’s visual impact. The colour palette takes inspiration from the iconic orange cliff face, with added complimentary blues and greens to reflect the ocean and bushland.
The layout was designed to be adaptable, with space for sponsor integration, event details, and flexible date placement. The artwork was created with versatility in mind, ensuring it could be easily adapted across merchandise, broadcast, and digital platforms.
